Résumé :

Agent de sécurité dans un stade de Philadelphie, David Dunn rentre de New York, où il avait rendez-vous, quand son train déraille à vive allure. Il sort pourtant miraculeusement indemne de l'effroyable catastrophe, dont il est l'unique survivant. A sa sortie de l'hôpital, il retrouve son fils Joseph et sa femme Audrey, dont il est sur le point de se séparer.
